West Lyon buries Hinton

46-0!!!! Way to go Big Blue!! That was a pounding. The offense put up 24 points in the first half. The starters got another 14 in the 2nd half and the second team marched down and scored also. Bennett Feuchtenberger had 137 yards and Kaleb Heyer had 133 yards. Both boys had 2 TDs, Kyle Groeneweg had 1 TD as did Dylan Whalen. Brandon had 5 PATs and a 44 yard field goal. Damon Knobloch also had a 2 point PAT. Total offense of 445 yards. As good as the offense was, the D was better. The defense was so physical. The D line was stout. Cody Bouman, Reagen Meyer, Jake Newborg and Marty Pottebaum. These guys did a great job. The linebackers, Kaleb Heyer, Vaughn Moser and Bennett Feuchtenberger fly to the ball, stuffing people. I would like to say more about the secondary, but they did not have to do much this week. This was a dominating performance. The only thing that was disappointing was the penalities. Way too many. I don't know where those officials were from, but they came up with crazy calls that brought back some TDs. Here is the article from their local paper. HINTON -- After finishing the non-district schedule 1-1, the Hinton football team had a tough task to begin district play Friday, as the Blackhawks hosted Class 1A No. 1-ranked West Lyon. While Hinton was able to hang around in the early going, the size and strength of the Wildcats was too much in the end, as the Blackhawks fell 46-0. "We played a very, very good team," Hinton co-head coach Bruce Held said. "We all knew that coming in. [West Lyon] had most of those kids back from last year and they performed pretty well as juniors. It was pretty much an all senior lineup, a veteran club and on a mission. They're going to be tough to beat all the way to the state championship game, in my opinion." The Blackhawks hung tough early, trailing just 7-0 after the first quarter of play and 14-0 after a Wildcat score in the second quarter. But a roughing the snapper penalty on a West Lyon punt gave the Wildcats new life, as they scored twice more before halftime. "That kind of put the old nails in the coffin, if they weren't already," Hinton co-head coach Steve Diediker said. "That put it out of reach." Following intermission, the Wildcats then used that strong first half finish to propel themselves to 22 second half points in a crushing road victory. "The second half, they got rolling again and we couldn't slow them down," Diediker said. Hinton quarterback Cole Johnston finished the night 5-14 passing for 53 yards and an interception. Teammates Jay Small and Terrill Henrich also attempted passes. Small was 1-5 for 53 yards and a pick, while Henrich was 1-1 for nine yards. Henrich led the rushing effort with 10 yards on three carries. Cole Siders had nine yards on three carries and Austin Sitzmann had seven yards on two attempts. Sitzmann led all Blackhawk receivers with four catches for 48 yards. Jake Hasselquist had a catch for 28 yards and Eric Brown had a reception for 14 yards. CJ Worden had a team-high nine tackles for Hinton, while Logan Jurgensmeier had eight and Alex Vos had seven. The Blackhawks (1-2, 0-1) will face another tough test this week, as they face undefeated Akron-Westfield (3-0, 1-0) on Friday. "Now, we kind of jump out of the frying pan into the fire with Akron-Westfield," Diediker said. "They're well-coached and have some good kids. It will be a big task again to try to turn the season around." If the enthusiasm for the game wasn't already heightened enough by the teams' close proximity, a bit of revenge is in the air for the Westerners, who fell to eventual state runner-up Hinton a year ago. "If I was those guys I would be playing that card a little bit," Held said. "You can use whatever you want for motivation. It might stir the fans up more than it does us and they like to play off of that stuff, which is fine. That's good. We're for that. Our main motivation is to get better."
