West Lyon handles Sioux Center

Big Blue had it rolling Friday night. Sioux Center is a good sized team with nice speed, but simply was not physical enough to stand up to our boys. We got the ball first, one first down and punt. Sioux Center moved it a bit but then Brandon Snyder had a pick. Drove down the field and a 5 yard TD pass to Paul Terwee. PAT missed. Sioux Center then put together their one drive for the night and scored on a QB keeper that went for 33 yards. PAT missed. 6-6. Big Blue drove the ball two more times but could not punch it in. They did get 3 points on a free kick. The way it was explained to me is that you can fair catch a ball and instead of running a play the team can tee it up and kick. If it goes through the uprights, it is worth 3 points, but if you miss the other team gets the ball at where the kick was attempted or return it. Brandon kicked it and it was from the 41. Big Blue leads 9-6. After half we kick off, force a fumble, drive and score. Brandon with the big run. 16-6. Another stop and after a missed horsecollar call Kyle Groeneweg goes for 50 and a TD, 23-6. Next cam the Big play that sealed the game. Sioux Center had 3rd and 4th and short and got stoned both times. Now it was the line's time. Big runs by Vaughn, Brandon, Kaleb and KJ. Big holes and backs running HARD. 4th quarter Brian Jiskoot had a pick and the 2nd team offense moved the ball pretty well. Some good looking runs then too. Bennett lead the way on defense with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery, Vaughn also had 8 tackles. Kaleb Heyer had 5 as did Brandon to go with his INT. The boys played well, especially the second half. Offensively Big Blue ran the ball well. 365 yards rushing with Brandon leading the way with 92 yards (2 TDs), Kyle with 87 (1 TD), Kaleb with 52 and Bennett had 46. Paul Terwee had 2 catches for 10 yards (1 TD). Next is Hinton, always gives us fits and we are down there. They did lose Friday, but that will not matter. We are off to a good start, keep it going.
