West Lyon blows by Sioux Center
47-18 West Lyon wins. Great game by Big Blue. Always good to go on the road and snag a win over a 2A squad. 1st quarter started out slow with SC crowding the line of scrimmage but once the Wildcats began hitting the edges we were moving. Got inside the 10 but were stopped but Caleb Heyer recovered a fumble in the endzone for a TD. 7-0. Kickoff team forces another fumble, bit of pounding and a TD run by Brandon Snyder and it is 14-0. Defense gave up a run here and there, but nothing consitant and then Heyer with another long run makes it 21-0 early 2nd. Sioux Center had it's one drive of the night and score on a 4th down toss to make it 21-6. West Lyon marches down the field and think Marty Pottebuam with short plunge makes it 27-6. Sioux Center is trying to throw the ball late, gets tipped in the air and Jake Newborg with an interception. He did fumble on the return but Cody Bauman recovers it. Brandon throws a strike to Heyer to close out the first half up 33-6. 2nd half more of West Lyon controlling things. There was a fumble return by Sioux Center to cut the score to 33-12 but Tyler Van Middendorp with a nice TD run and Jacob Meyer with a beautiful TD catch put the score at 47-12. Sioux Center scores a late TD against the JV for the final score of 47-18. West Lyon was just under 300 yards rushing and 40 passing with 2 passing TDs. Sioux Center varsity had maybe 150 yards total. I thought the boys looked a bit slow to start, but once it got cranking, Big Blue looked improved over last week. Both lines looked better, RBs running harder, LBs moving around. Don't forget to go to Iowa Quikstats to see all the stats.
Next game, Hinton. They always make me nervous. They are 1-1 now as they almost knocked off 1A SOB last week 27-28. At least we are home. Let's go 1-0 to start district play.
GO BIG BLUE!!
