West Lyon loses a squeaker to Emmetsburg

Well, no surprise, the game at Emmetsburg came down to the last minute and was decided by a TD or less. 20-13 Emmetsburg. Game was full of hard hits, big plays, turnovers, and big special team plays. Ehawks scored first on a fumble return in the first quarter after Big Blue had held them inside the red zone. PAT no good and Ehawks up 6-0. Big Blue had a nice drive in the second but stalled at the 10, two plays later a 88 yard TD run put the score at 12-0 and not alot more happened in the first half. The third was more of the same as the defenses stood firm. Late in the 3rd Big Blue was finally moving, but a Flagrant late hit out of bounds knocked Brandon Snyder out of the game and a pick a bit later stopped that drive. Early in the fourth, 12-0 and here comes the special teams, blocked punt returned by Kaleb Heyer for a score, 12-7, and then a recovered KO return led to a Jacob Meyer to Adam T TD pass and we lead 13-12 after missing on the two point conversion. Stone Emmetsburg again and receive the punt, get a first down, but did not get a second and punted away. Incomplete pass and then Emmetsburg throws up a prayer that was answered, a 65 yard TD pass, with 1:30 left for Big Blue. We throw a pick on 4th down and it is over. Emmetsburg had 294 total yards, 155 of it on two plays. Here are our stats.Game Stats for West Lyon on 9/30/2011 @ Emmetsburg

Final thoughts, the boys played a great game. Emmetsburg is a very good team and winning there has always been tough for us. Next up Sioux Central, 4-2 overall and sounds like they are better. Strap it up. GO BIG BLUE!!
