Mistakes cost West Lyon win over Western

Nice night for football, good size crowd. Umm, game got off to a slow start. Western did not move the ball much, but punted well. Big Blue was being called for holding and putting themselves in bad spots the first quarter. The Defense was awesome, really all game, but expecially in the first half. Beau knocked out the starting QB. The front 7 was strong as heck, no real movement there. Big Blue did put together a nice drive with about 8 left in the half and scored on a great pass to Adam T from Cody Grotewold. West Lyon got the ball back with about 3 minutes, but a pass was picked by WC and returned to the Wildcat 30, but the defense had a 4 and out, and ran out the clock. West Lyon leads 7-0. The third quarter was all West Lyon, moved the ball well, until a flag came out here and there. Twice West Lyon was inside the WC 30 and turned it over, one pick and one fumble. At this point I would like to point out there was alot of critisim thrown at the refs, and deservedly so. On the long run at the end of the 3rd for WC Beau was tackled and at least one clipping that was not called, the first TD catch was a yard short of the endzone. Western was holding all game, but were rarely called. But you know what? We are going to, and have seen in the past, poor officiating. We just need to overcome it. Speaking of the long run, that sparked WC to a TD and we are 7-7 with 11:00 minutes left. Exchange punts, some good defense, both teams but then Western hits a tailback pass (30 yards) to the 10, incomplete pass, then a 10 yard run for TD with 55 seconds left. 14-7 Western. West Lyon recieves the kick, pass to Adam for 30-40 yards, then to Beau for 20 then Trevor runs for a 5 yard TD and there is still 29 seconds left. Very impressive how West Lyon came back, but we went for two and fumbled the snap. ugh, ugly end to a great game. 14-13 Western. Overall, Western is impressive on D, average on O. Their O line is big, but could not run the ball well and they struggle protecting the QB. They have some good skill position people so they can hit a big play. They crowded the line and sent everyone on defense. West Lyon had just under 300 yards of offense, but flags and turnovers did them in.
Big Blue fans, don't get too upset over this. We all know nondistict games mean nothing and we were missing 3 (?) starters on offense and had two more get hurt and the back ups kept us going. Right now we are still pretty good, when we are healthy, watch out. This week is Alta/Aurelia, new co-op and I don't know a thing about them other than it is a long way down there. May just listen to this one. Take care of business Wildcats!! GO BIG BLUE!!
