West Lyon rolls into playoffs, 35-15 over Underwood.
Wednesday was not a nice night for a football game. It rained most of the night and the field became very muddy. Underwood came off the bus ready to go. West Lyon moved the ball somewhat but no scores in the 1st quarter. Jessie Selgeby then ripped off a great run to get us going 7-0. Another Selgeby TD run had us up 14-0 and moving the ball again late in the 2nd when Big Blue fumbled. On third and three Underwood's fullback breaks a TD run of 55 yards with about a minute left and the half time score is 14-7. West Lyon comes out of the half, stones Underwood, drives down and scores, 21-7, and scores and scores. It was 35-7 early fourth. Jessie scores 4 TD's and runs for 190 yards. Jessie is now the school's all time leading rusher, passing Chris Tracy. Sully Al-Ostaz had 104 yards rushing and one TD. Underwood did score a late TD, under a minute, against the second group, the old hook and lateral. At no point did this game ever "feel" in doubt. Underwood was better than last year, but Jessie was out of the game at 28-7 and WL could have really named their score. West Lyon did struggle with hanging on to the ball at times. Cannot have that tonight. The O line played very well, they really haven't got the credit they deserve. Underwood had up to 10 guys in the box and we still were moving the ball. The defense was pretty solid, with Beau H leading the way, 9 tackles and 3 sacks. I thought we had some nice pressure on the QB and made them one dimensional. Tonight's game against Hinton will be tough. The flu is running through school right now and there are a couple injuries also. Heard some things in church yesterday about who may or may not be able to play, but I will wait until tonight and see who shows up. I expect a good game, but if WL does not have three first half turnovers like the first game, I think we will win by 14. If we have turnovers and are sluggish, Hinton could knock us off. Should be a nice night on the muddy field at West Lyon. GO BIG BLUE!!
