First off, great game. Hinton really brought their best shot. They were a top ten quality team by the end of the year. I was really impressed with how well they could throw the ball. That is how Hinton came out, throwing. On the first series Hinton got a first down and were about to get another on a catch when Brendan TerWee created a fumble and Cody Grotewold recovered. West Lyon did not do much and on the next drive Hinton moved down the field with combo's of short to intermediate passes and scored with about 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter. Hinton now leads 7-0. After the KO, Big Blue found itself in 3rd and 9, Jessie around the edge and a big gain to the 20. A few plays later Jessie scores. 7-7. Daniel Kroger then pulls in a pick and Big Blue drives right down again and score 14-7. Hinton puts together a nice drive, but Adam T gets an int in the endzone, it was an amazing play. West Lyon doesn't do much and then off goes Hinton on a late drive. They score with about 20 seconds left on a TD pass and we are tied, 14-14. Second half was more West Lyon. WL moved the ball on the ground very well the second half and ground down the clock. Hinton also went away from the passing game which I thought was odd. I realize WL made some great adjustments and were starting to get pressure on the QB, but come on, running in between the tackles against that front? Has not worked for anyone this year, wasn't working that night. West Lyon held Hinton to under 100 yards rushing, again. However the QB threw for 212 or so. I didn't understand why they didn't stick with it. Anyway, West Lyon scores with a great pass to Beau Hassebroek. West Lyon had another drive that lasted about 6 minutes that got to the 13. On 3rd down and 7, Big Blue had a fumble and Hinton reocovered. They hit a nice seam pass to a back and they are in business. Beau makes a stellar play on the ball on 3rd and 3, knocking it down from his DE spot and then on 4th, the QB has to throw a bad pass after good pressure from the big boys. West Lyon then gets the ball with 5 minutes left and proceed to drive it right down the field, milking time off the clock until then horn sounded. West Lyon 21, Hinton 14. West Lyon kneeled at the 8 of Hinton to end the game. Jessie had another great game, 168 yards rushing with 2 TD's. Cody Grotewold continues to improve at QB and scorched Hinton for 77 yards on only 8 carries and Sully had 51 yards on 13 carries. The offensive line handled blitz after blitz with little problem, they are an impressive group. Cody was 1-2, 28 yards and a TD. The defense was lead by Kyle Heyer with 11 tackles, Adam Teunissen had 9 tackles and a pick. Trevor Snyders turned in 7 tackles with Beau and Brendan Ter Wee pulling down 6 a piece.
Now we get to travel to Council Bluffs and face St Albert. Very good, maybe great, team. You can see some of their previous games by going to the St Albert fan site. Interesting site with lots of stuff on it. It sounds like they are on the smaller side, very fast, and have one of the best QBs in Iowa. If there is a coaching staff in the state that can give this number one ranked team a run for the money, it is ours. I won't be shocked if we win, won't be shocked if we lose, will be shocked if it is a blowout either way. I will say it is a shame that one of these schools will not advance to the semi's. I'm not sure if these two are the best two in the state, but I do believe they are both top four, just like last year, and the year before. See you down south,( I hope I can make it). GO BIG BLUE!!
