CBSA slips by West Lyon 24-21
It was a beautiful night Friday night as Big Blue visited St Albert for the first time. The stadium set up was neat, high hill with bleachers built into it. Did not like the walk up and the down the hill however. St Albert came in ranked #1 and WL at #5. They vibe from the St Albert crowd was one of here great confidence that game would not be close. Well, Big Blue started at there own 20 (touchback) and went right down the field and scored in about 3 minutes. Jessie and Sully just chewing it up with the O line dominating. We score, 7-0. Kickoff was short so SA starts at the 50, first play goes 20 yards but then fumble and we get it. However, next we fumble it right back and SA runs the ball pretty effectively and scores to make it 7-7. After another touchback, Big Blue goes right down the field again, mostly on a 65 yard run by Jessie, and jessie scores from 2 yards out to make it 13-7, missed extra point. After the KO, SA moves the ball at will, mostly with runs and sweeps and scores on a 40 yard sweep to make it 14-13. West Lyon has to punt on the next series and SA hits a few passes with runs with about 8 minutes left, it is 21-13 SA. West Lyon moves the ball a bit but a holding call hurts and after a punt, SA gets a few things going but between a penalty and pressure from the defense and they are forced to punt. Not much time left so West Lyon justs runs it out. Now CBSA was averaging 42+ a game and rarely played starters past 3rd quarter so this was not looking good. The halftime adjustments were great and the Falcon attack was held to 3 points the second half. WL kicks off and the D was now dialed in. Just missed two picks in their side of the field and Waters is getting hit. Offense starts going but then a fumble at our own 42 gives SA good field position. They get to the 8 for first and goal, but after a tackle for loss, recover own fumble and incomplete pass, SA hits a field goal, 24-13. West Lyon has a nice return, and after one first down and 3rd and ten, Jessie hits a sweep with Tory Mogler leading the way and boom, cut left, cut right, break a tackle or 5 and 58 yard touchdown, Cody A with 2 point conversion and we are at 24-21 SA. CBSA gets a couple first downs and then runs a fake punt to get a first inside the WL 45. Big Blue stops them and SA punts with about 7:30 left, ball at WL 4. We get it up the 42 with some runs, but a procedure penalty, and then sack puts us at 3rd and 22. Hit Jessie with a pass in the middle for 17, but run an option right and only gain a yard. SA runs out the clock and another WL/CBSA game goes down as a classic. Jessie had 255 yards rushing and 3 TD's. The O line was outstanding along with Sully, Cody and Swen lead blocking. West Lyon had 350+ for total O so once again CBSA was unable to stop us very consistantly. Penalties and 2 fumbles did more than what SA did. CBSA is very fast and creates match up problems. The WL coaches did a great job adjusting defensively after the 1st quarter, but we needed another big play or two, a fumble, pic whatever. We were very physical and it was easy to see the Falcons were beat up by the end of the game. They did, however, win, and now I wish them luck as I expect they will roll. Praire Valley will not do well with CBSA and their sets, but maybe South Winn will challenge. We shall see. As the official all district and all state teams come out I will try to update. Congrats boys, you are one of the best teams in the state and it has been fun following you!!
