Strange game Friday night. Lots of rain all the way down and the field was very muddy, but the rain had stopped before the game so it was not a huge factor. Game was at Lawton btw. WL kicks off, short return, Lawton fumbles right away. We recover and Sully (starting at fullback) fumbles it back. ugh. Lawton kind of flops around, punt, we don't do much, punt, Lawton gets a first down, pulls a fake on us for another 1st down and before you know it, they are inside the 25. However, big blue rises up and stops them, LB trys a field goal and misses. Now we had some things going at times but penalities just killed us. 4 different holding calls stopped some good looking drives. 0-0 at half. LB trys an onside kick to start the second half, WL recovers, doesn't do much with it, LB is stuffed, punt and Big Blue scores on Jessie Seglby's 44 yard run. Snyder kick (still looking great as a kicker) and it is 7-0. Kickoff, LB punt, WL moving late in 3rd and boom, Lawton's best kid breaks his leg. It was nasty. Play is stopped for a long time. When we get going again WL is just kind of flat and LB is fighting again. West Lyon does have a nice drive from our 10 to their 40, but get stopped on 4th down instead of punting with a few minutes left. Lawton suddenly gets a few first downs and a crappy late hit call on West Lyon and boom in business at about the 20 with 45 seconds left. FINALLY Lawton gets called for motion and good thing too, they had a play get to the end zone. West Lyon holds, and kneels for the victory. Any time you beat a good team on the road you have to be thankful. Jessie with 18 carries and 124 yards to lead the offense. Sully and Cody G both had around 30 yards rushing. Defense was led by our two new linebackers, Jason Van Ginkel (7 solo, 4 asst) and Brendan TerWee (5 solo, 8 assist). Kyle Heyer and Tory Mogler also had a bunch of tackles but the D line did a great job of holding up their big lineman. Trevor Snyders, Nick Thompson, and Tyler Bos just did not get moved. It was pretty awesome. Coach Rozeboom is doing his ususal shuffle the team around to find the best mix and it looked good on defense. I thought the offense looked pretty solid, fewer penalities and get smoother on play fakes etc and we will explode.
Sioux Central for homecoming this week, they are 2-1 but got blown out by HMS 42-7 so we need to get after them early and thinking of the long ride back home. GO BIG BLUE!!
