BHRV Nighthawks dump West Lyon Wildcats
Well, there is no way to sugarcoat it, BHRV was just the better team friday and won 27-10. BHRV opened the game after a WL three and out and just marched down the field and scored, 7-0, WL didn't do much on offense (for the entire 1st half), BHRV then hit a huge play on a screen play, like 60 yards to make it 14-0. West Lyon did kick a field goal at the end of the first half, but it wasn't a field goal, they kicked it from the 33 after a fair catch with the kickoff team and it went through the goal posts for 3 points. Not sure how that works but it is legal. Anyway, BHRV hit another big play ( nice option run) to start the 2nd half and got up 20-3 (blocked extra point). At this point WL was struggling running the ball and had missed some tackles. Finally, Big Blue got moving (including some 4th down conversions) and defense played pretty well and we scored with about a 1:00 left in the 3rd, score now 20-10. BHRV had to punt but we got a first down and punted. BHRV throws a pick but again WL could not do alot with it. After a WL punt, BHRV finally hit one of their big boys ( two 6'9" kids at receiver ), to make the score 27-10 with about 3:30 left, kind of a cheap score. I mean think about it, you're up by only ten with under 4 minutes left, why risk a turnover or quick int return for a touchdown against a team you haven't beat for years? It is that kind of coaching that has gotten BHRV beat by athletically inferior teams over the last ten years (including West Lyon a few times). Trevor Snyders had a great game punting and kicking the ball and overall the special teams were pretty good. At first it seemed like the o line was just getting it's rear kicked ( only 192 total yards ) but as the game unfolded I didn't see alot of plays by the D line of BHRV, it was linebackers blowing through WL lead backs. Now that needs to improve, not used to seeing our backs getting blown up. Defensively our LB's struggeled in open space and gave up a few big plays. I thought the DBs were solid and the DL was OK , (gave up 322 total yards of offense) tough to get pressure against that offense. BHRV may finally have it figured out, the district they are in is down and the playoffs should be as easy a road in 2A in Iowa. Should make the semi's, at least. If not, well that would be very disappointing considering the amount of talent they have. However BHRV history is full of talented yet disappointing teams. West Lyon goes from a great team to playing a very good one in Lawton Bronson, at Lawton. My friends from Heelan ( who beat them first game) said they are big in some areas and had some spunk. This is a tough game for West Lyon. They need a little shot of confidence and LB is not going to be an easy time. See you in Lawton!!
