West Lyon survives Hinton 21-18

On the road, good team, bad weather, another tough game. Game started out well, very windy, wet field, but no rain. WL took the kickoff at the 17 and just marched down the field. A couple penalities inside the 10 and WL got most of it back, had 4th and 2 at the 4 and we fumbled. Hinton had their only good run of the day on the first play and with some passing moved it fine but had to punt. West Lyon was 3 and out, punt,Hinton 3 and out, but then on second down, West Lyon fumbles and Hinton is at the 30. They hit a nice middle screen get to the ten, but then get stoned, kick FG. WL has to punt, hinton punts, West lyon gets a first down and then fumbles again. Hinton gets down to the 12 has 4th and 3, throws it up and TD with 1:33 left we are down 10-0. Nice KO return to the 40 and next play, BOOM, Jessie takes it to the house, 60 yards TD. KO, Hinton 3 and out, punt, we used all our TO to preserve clock, hit a great fade to Adam T and wouldn't ya know it, another ticky tack flag. We did get pass interference on fade a bit later and tried a 47 yard FG, Trevor did not miss it by much. 10-7 Hinton at half. KO to Hinton, they hit a nice swing pass and get 15 yards on a facemask. They are at the 20, but get no more, try a FG and it gets blocked by Beau H ( i think) and the cats are in business. Not really, 3 and out,punt, Hinton doesn't do much, turn over on 4th down and then Big Blue just drives down the field and scores with Jessie from 2 yards out, up 14-10. Hinton then throws a pick to Kyle Heyer and West Lyon marches again and scores with about 9 minutes left ( Jessie again, 171 yards on 25 carries) to make it 21-10. Hinton comes right back and throws the ball around to make 21-18 with about 7 minutes left, hold WL and actually got the ball down to about the 20 but some great pressure up front and a sack by Kyle Scholten on 4th down gives the ball back to WL. Couldn't get a first down to ice it, but Hinton was out of time outs so some time got milked off the clock. Punt with a minute left but 4 and out and we win. Cody Grotewold continues to grow in the option, good decisions ran for 73 yards. Cody Ahrendt had 44 yards and Sully had 31. Line continues to play well despite 9 men in box. We will need to throw the ball at some point, I think Cody can do it. Defensively the front 7(Beau H, Tyler B, Nick T, Cody A, Tory M, Kyle S, Trevor S, Brendan TW, Jason VG) do an outstanding job of stopping run, 21 attempts, 20 yards and six sacks. Some tipped passes also. Gave up 260 yards passing however. I would surprised if we didn't see some changes next week as there were some pretty obvious coverage mistakes made by some DB's. I'm sure the coaches will come up with something. This puts us in a great position to win the district. West Sioux is next, at West Sioux. They are 3-1 in the district so they are improved. They beat Sioux Central 14-0 last week.
