West Lyon controls HMS

Nice night for football at West Lyon. WL came out and drove down the field, but did not convert a 4th and goal. Stoned HMS and blocked the punt (Andrew Metzger block and cover TD). up 7-0. Stop HMS again, get the ball in nice field position but a chop block call puts us in 2nd and 25, couldn't pick up the first down. HMS and WL just kind of push back and forth. Their stud Josh Treybel gets hurt and leaves during 2nd quarter. I think their QB is even better. The other back (Finch) is average and we were controlling Treybal even before he got hurt (14 yards, seven carries). HMS scores with about 4 minutes left, WL marches it right down the field, stuffing it up HMS rear and scores right before half, 14-6 WL. WL receives kickoff, right down the field, score, 21-6. HMS does nothing, WL takes the punt, right down the field again and score just before the end of the 3rd quarter, 28-6. HMS did have a decent drive and score in early 4th to make 28-14, but WL drove down the field and missed a field goal. Couple plays later Adam Teunissen pulls in a pick and West Lyon wins. West Lyon rushes for 360 yards, Jessie has 171 and Sully had 90. Cody G really looked good at QB, keep that up we need the option. Defense held HMS to 186 yards rushing and 45 passing, not bad considering they were averaging about 390 yards rushing a game. Interior defense was very good. Did not contain very well though and their QB was very fast so he had some good yards. I am sure the DE and OLB's will get that figured out. Overall, HMS is good, not great and West Lyon is simply better all the way around. Big Blue really smashed at HMS and they could not handle it so a nice WL win. Also, not impressed with the HMS coaches, whine, whine, whine about officials. Ironic, considering the home field advantage they have had the last couple years. I know West Lyon is not the only team that has experienced that crew that works the HMS games. Our opponent is Hinton at Hinton. They are 4-1 and have been ranked this year. Their only loss is to HMS (42-21) but they led 21-6 in the 3rd before the wheels came off. (Hmmm at HMS also, wonder if the refs had anything to do with it). Will be a tough game against a well coached team. We control our own destiny as we are the only undefeated team in district. We are pretty healthy, a couple sprained ankles is all so GO BIG BLUE!!
