West Lyon at HMS
Wow what a weird game. West Lyon won 7-6. West Lyon scored on their second drive as Doorneweerd goes in from 20 yards out and held that lead until about 3:30 left in the 4th as the HMS QB scrambled in from around 18 yards (on 4th and 7) out after being flushed from the pocket. They went for two but fumbled the shot gun snap and got sacked. HMS got the ball back with about 2 minutes left but Will Van Hill stripped HMS of the ball and Dorneweerd recovered and we just kneeled to run out the clock. The offense moved the ball in spurts ( had about 260 yards total offense) but penalties really hurt. The officials were crazy bad. In the first half it was killing WL, but then the 2nd half HMS started getting called. The worst call was a 50 yard catch for HMS that the receiver fumbled and WL recovered but HMS was called down. HMS scored a bit later on this drive. It was not only the missed fumble call, but the holding on Koedam during the same play as he was pressuring the QB. The tackle had his hand around to the back of the jersey and was pulling on it. What is frustrating is the phantom block in the back calls ( on both WL and HMS ) but then missing some obvious ones. On the plus side the WL defense held Treybal from HMS to about 40 yards (he was averaging 160) and Sweeney to under 80 yards. Andy Simons played very well at DT and sophmores Nick Thompson and Brendan TerWee did very well at LB. Randy Kippley is just a tough CB and really played well. West Lyon did lose Will Vant Hoff in the first half and he is a good one folks. He plays right tackle on O and DT. Not sure what is wrong but his knee was wrapped and was using crutches. Was told it is a sprain, should be back soon. 3-0 in the district, everyone else has a loss. We are in complete control
