Another nice night for a game. Big Blue kicks off, allows a first down, forces a punt. Moving on down the field and we throw a pick six. Stopped the 2 point, trail 6-0. Move on down the field again, fumble at the ten or so. Get the ball back and now here we go. Up the middle and Adam Tuinnesen busts off a good run for the first TD. Marty Pottebaum with the 2 conversion and we are up 8-6. Defense holds firm, but a punt to the one does not look good. But here we go again and despite some penalities we go 99 yards with a 40 yard TD pass to Adam T. Adam then turns around and picks a pass and returns it to the 35. We pound and pound and Ethan Ageson with the TD run. 22-6 and not much time left. A/A runs a boot leg and gets about 50 yards and then on 4th down from the 15 with about 10 seconds left their QB throws up a pass across his body for a TD, 2 pt conversion stopped and it is 22-12 at half. Big Blue get the ball to start the second half and just pound down the field and fumble. We get it right back, pound it, throw a short one to Adam T, another TD pass for Brandon Snyder. Again, we stop them but have to start at the our own two. Long drive to their 33, stopped of 4th and 4. Couple first downs for A/A but we stop a fake punt at the 50 and drive to the 3 and fumble. Up by 17, less than 2 minutes left. A/A gets a first but then Lucas Bouwman has a sack-forced fumble and Jordan Schemmel scopes and scores, we win 36-12. Quikstats does not give individual stats for games anymore so here is the Sioux City Journal recap with some stats.
WEST LYON 36, ALTA-AURELIA 12
INWOOD, Iowa -- Adam Teunissen scored three touchdowns and trio of West Lyon players rushed for at least 100 yards to carry the eighth-ranked (Class 1A) Wildcats past Alta-Aurelia on Friday night.
Teunissen caught three passes for 64 yards and a pair of scores, and also ran 26 yards for another touchdown, part of West Lyon's (2-1) 519 yards of total offense.
The three Wildcats who topped the century mark on the ground were Ethan Ageson (133 yards), quarterback Brandon Snyder (107) and Kyle Groeneweg (101).
Jalen Henningsen picked off a Snyder pass and returned it 60 yards to put Alta-Aurelia (1-3) on the board first, but West Lyon reeled off three straight touchdowns and never looked back.
I would like to say hats off to the O line. They just opened holes all night. 519 total yards is impressive. The defense looks fine, Adam, Lucas, and Kaleb really stood out to me last week, but a few too many rushing yards at times. But then again we don't give up many points. The sophomores made some mistakes, but wow do they make some plays too. Alta/Aurelia is going to win some more games this year, so this is a good win. SOB next week in Paullina. Keep it rolling boys.
GO BIG BLUE!!
